Women's Basketball Falls to UCF to Open AAC Play

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Temple women's basketball team opened conference play with a 76-46 loss at UCF in Saturday afternoon American Athletic Conference action. The Owls dip to 8-5 (0-1), losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. UCF improved to 9-5 (1-0) with the win.
KEYS TO THE GAME
> UCF shot nearly 50% for the game (31-63), holding the Owls to 36.4% (16-44) from the field and 20.0% (3-15) from three.
> Temple had trouble with the Knights' full-court press, turning the ball over 23 times in the contest.
> The Knights also finished with a 37-31 edge on the glass.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Freshman Mia Davis led the Owls in scoring for the second-straight game, finishing with 14 points.
> Graduate student Mykia Jones picked up Temple career bests of 11 points and five rebounds.
> Owls' senior Tanaya Atkinson logged just 24 minutes because of foul trouble, finishing with six points, five rebounds, and two assists.
> Freshman Breanna Perry chipped in with four points, while sophomore Shantay Taylor had four points and a team-best seven rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER
> UCF scored the first six points of the frame, en route to a 20-11 advantage afer one.
> The Knights shot 53.3% (8-15) from the field, including making both three point attempts, while the Owls were held to 5-14 (35.7%).
> Tanaya Atkinson led Temple with five of the Owls' 11 points in the frame.
SECOND QUARTER
> Temple struck first in the second quarter on a three from Mykia Jones, but UCF quickly answered with six-straight to go back up 26-14.
> The Owls had a pair of extended runs to get the lead down to single digits, including a three from Jones that made it 34-25 with 1:19 to play.
> UCF then rattled off seven straight points in the final minute of play to take a 41-25 lead at the break.
THIRD QUARTER
> UCF out-scored Temple 16-10 in the third, to push the lead to its largest of the game -- 56-35.
> Temple attempted just eight field goals in the frame, while turning the ball over seven times.
FOURTH QUARTER
> UCF rattled off a 9-0 run to open the fourth quarter, all but putting the game away.
> The Knights led by as many as 33 points, before the final score of 76-36.
