Men's Basketball Hosts Tulane Saturday at Noon for Senior Day
2.24.17 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Three senior student-athletes and two senior managers will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 25 as Temple men's basketball (14-15, 5-11) plays its final home game of the regular season against Tulane (5-22, 2-13) at noon (ESPNU / 1210 AM WPHT). The Senior Day ceremony will take place about 20 minutes before the start of the contest.
Along with Senior Day, Saturday's game is Diamond Dollar Hot Dog Day and Military Appreciation Day. Call 215-204-TIXX to purchase and donate tickets to area veterans and their families as part of Hoops for Troops.
Heading into its final two regular season games, Temple has lost three straight and four of its last five. The most recent two defeats were both heartbreakers. UConn's Jalen Adams scored a layup with three seconds left to hand the Owls a 64-63 loss on Feb. 19, and Temple was unable to score on its final three possessions in a 71-69 loss to UCF on Feb. 22.
The Huskies' final bucket marked their only lead of the second half, and Temple led for all but a total of one minute in the first half. In the UCF game, the Owls led by as many as 10 points early in the second half before the Knights came all the way back.
Senior Daniel Dingle led the Owls with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists vs. UConn, becoming the first player to lead Temple in all three categories in a single game since Khalif Wyatt had done so at Fordham on March 6, 2013. Leading four players in double figures vs. UCF was junior Obi Enechionyia with 17 points and 5-of-8 three-pointers.
The Owls have led at halftime in each of their last three losses, after previously being 11-2 when leading at the break. They held a one-point, 38-37 lead at East Carolina on Feb. 15, led 35-29 vs. UConn on Feb. 19 and led 33-24 vs. UCF on Feb. 22.
Five different players have led Temple in scoring in its last five games. Sophomore Shizz Alston, Jr., who leads the team and ranks 12th in the league with 13.7 ppg, has led or tied for the team lead the most times this season (10 games).
Tulane recently snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over USF on Feb. 18, but suffered a narrow, 76-73 loss in its most recent game against East Carolina on Feb. 21. Two players average in double figures in scoring for the Green Wave, led by redshirt junior guard Cameron Reynolds at 16.4 ppg along with a team-best 6.7 rpg.
Temple and Tulane are meeting for the ninth time, with the Owls holding a 6-2 lead in the all-time series. Temple has won five straight including all four meetings since the teams have both been members of the American Athletic Conference. Earlier this season in New Orleans, Temple won 79-71 on Jan. 31. The teams met just once last year, in New Orleans, with the Owls winning 64-56 to clinch the American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship on March 6, 2016.
Mike Robbins
A native of Wynnewood, Pa., Robbins joined the team as a walk-on in 2014 and has grown to become a valuable reserve in his senior season. An accomplished artist off the court, he has tallied 22 points and dished seven assists in his final season as an Owl.
Mark Williams
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Williams has been a key reserve and part-time starter in each of his four seasons. Saving his best for last, has has scored in double digits seven times this season and has tallied over 500 points, 300 rebounds and 100 assists for his career.
Daniel Dingle
