PHILADELPHIA - Due to thunderstorms predicted for Wednesday, Temple lacrosse will now head to La Salle one day later than planned. The game, originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m., will now be played on Thursday, March 2 at 3 p.m.
La Salle is the second city rival of the season for the Owls (4-1), who earned a one-goal victory at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 22. The Explorers have played just two games so far, and are 1-1 heading into the matchup with Temple.
Temple has won four of five games to start the season, falling only to No. 13 Princeton. The Owls have since won back-to-back contests, edging Saint Joseph's 14-13 on the road before coming back home for an 18-12 win vs. Lafayette.Â
Leading Temple in total points this season is senior Brenda McDermott, whose 15 assists lead the BIG EAST Conference and rank third among all players in NCAA Division I. McDermott has also scored nine goals to total 24 points. The Owls' scoring leader is sophomore Amber Lambeth with 12 goals, scoring all of them in three, four-goal efforts this season. Seniors Morgan Glassford and Anna Frederick are tied with McDermott at nine goals each, while senior Carly Demato has eight.
Glassford has recorded 27 draw controls to rank second in the league and 21st in the nation with 5.40 draws per game. As a team, Temple ranks 11th nationally with 15.80 draw controls per game.
La Salle has split games so far in 2017 with a 13-7 win over Manhattan followed by a 15-12 loss to Sacred Heart. The Explorers are coming off a 5-11 season last year. Junior attacker Brittany Edwards lead La Salle with six goals this season, and senior midfielder Allee Ilgenfritz is close behind with five.
Temple leads La Salle 14-4 all-time, and won 13-2 against the Explorers in game two of the 2016 season. The previous year's meeting was much closer, with the Owls winning 9-7 on the road. La Salle's last win was in 2014, 7-4 at Temple.
After Thursday's game, the Owls will return home for two straight games against UMBC (March 4) and Bucknell (March 12).
