Women's Basketball Wins Big over Tulsa on School Day

2.8.17 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team made it 15-0 on "School Day" games, topping visiting Tulsa, 70-43, on Wednesday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. The win improved the Owls to 18-5 overall, 8-3 in conference play, while Tulsa dips to 8-16, 4-7.

Temple held Tulsa to just 22.2% from the field, while forcing 16 turnovers out of the Golden Hurricane. On the other side of the ball, Temple shot 38.8% from the field, turning over the ball just six times, a season low.

Junior Donnaizha Fountain led the Owls in scoring for the second-straight game, tallying 17 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald flirted with the first triple-double in program history, but finished her afternoon with 14 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Junior Alliya Butts rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points, while classmates Tanaya Atkinson and Khadijah Berger each tallied nine points in the win.

Temple started the game with a 6-3 run, before Tulsa closed the gap to 11-10 on Ebony Parker's second three of the game. From there, it was all Temple, as the Owls ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 19-10 lead.

Tulsa used hot three point shooting to get to within four (22-18) on a three from Shug Dickson. However, once again Temple responded, finishing out the frame by out-scoring Tulsa, 18-4.

The Owls led 40-22 at the break, backed by 15 first-half points and eight rebounds from Fountain. Fitzgerald had six points and six boards in the first 20 minutes, while Tulsa got six points each from Parker and Erika Wakefield.

For the second-straight game, the Owls held their opponents to single digit points in the third quarter. Temple's offense rolled to 20 points, while the Golden Hurricane could only manage seven, as the Owls led 60-29.

In the fourth, Temple's lead grew to 39 points on a Deja Reynolds free throw, before Tulsa's bench outscored Temple's bench, 12-0 in the final three minutes of play, setting the final to 70-43.
