Field Hockey Leads BIG EAST in NFHCA Academic Honors

3.15.17 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - With 16 Temple field hockey student-athletes named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, the Owls tied for the most honors among all schools in the BIG EAST Conference.

Only Liberty matched Temple in the number of honorees among conference teams, which include all student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher during the fall semester.

Three Owls also earned the title of "Scholar of Distinction" for having a GPA of 3.9 or higher. Freshmen Kathryn Edgar, Maddie Lilliock and Maddie Merton were those three honorees, with both Edgar (Northern Ireland) and Merton (New Zealand) being international students.

The academic honors for individuals come on the heels of a major team honor, as the Owls' 3.56 team GPA ranks tied for fifth among all field hockey teams in Division I and Temple earned a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award.

Seniors Katie Foran, Paige Gross and Ali Meszaros were all denoted as four-year members of the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
