Two Fencers to Represent Temple at NCAA Championships

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Safa Ibrahim and freshman Kerry Plunkett will be representing the sixth-ranked Temple fencing team at the NCAA Championships, having both bids from the Mid-Atlantic/South Region. The national meet is set for Saturday-Sunday, March 25-26 (women's fencing) and will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Ibrahim, an epee fencer, will be making her third straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. She's coming off an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, and went 45-25 in dual meets this season. Ibrahim placed 16th at the national meet as a freshman and 17th as a sophomore.
Plunkett fences for the sabre squad, and has qualified for the NCAA Championships in her debut season with the Owls. She advanced to the finals and placed 11th overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, and went 69-23 overall in dual meets this season. Among many strong finishes over the course of her freshman year, Plunkett tied for third among 143 competitors in junior women's epee at the January North American Cup (NAC).
