Todd Named Co-Rookie of the Year in Gymnastics' 193.675 Championship Performance

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Concluding a record-setting season, Temple women's gymnastics picked up a few more records on its way to a 193.675 finish inside the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The team score for the Owls sits as the highest team score ever posted at the ECAC Championships, topping last year's 192.525. Overall, the Owls ranked fifth behind first-time ECAC Champions Yale (194.60), Cornell (194.45), Brown (194.125), and William & Mary (193.925). Penn rounded out the teams with a 192.075.
After ranking as the top freshman all-around performer all season long, Daisy Todd was awarded co-Rookie of the Year honors. She shared the title with Yale's Jade Buford. The of-the-year award is the first for Temple since 2011 when Marissa Oxenford was awarded Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Jean Alban was Temple's last Rookie of the Year in 2009.
In her first conference performance, Todd posted a season-high 39.025, the third-highest individual all-around score in program history, to take second behind Cornell's Lyanda Dudley.
The Owls worked the meet in Olympic rotation starting on vault. Headed by Sahara Gipson's 9.775, the lineup totaled a 48.175. Gipson's score held strong to place her second overall among all vaulters for the day. Daisy Todd was close behind Gipson with a 9.75 that placed third and fellow freshman Jaylene Everett posted a 9.7 in her first conference championship appearance. Aya Mahgoub added a 9.65 with Yasmin Eubanks' 9.3 rounding out the counting scores.
After a bye in the second rotation the Owls came out firing on bars. The lineup posted the highest ECAC Championship bar total in program history with a 2017 season-high of 48.825. Alexa Phillip led the way with a huge 9.875 that wrote her into the Temple record books as the first ECAC bars champion in program history. She shared the honor with Yale's Megan Ryan. Phillips' set followed up Kerry Arone's career-high tying 9.85 that ranked in a tie for third. Todd added a solid 9.8 with Reagan Oliveri and Breahna Wiczkowski posting scores of 9.675 and 9.625, respectively.
On beam the Owls totaled the second-highest ECAC Championship score in program history with a 48.45. The lineup was led by Wiczkowski's 9.75 and a pair of 9.7 scores from Todd and Kerra Masella. Whitney King added a 9.675 with Oliveri's 9.625 rounding out the counting scores.
Temple closed out the day on floor with 48.225. In her very last career performance, Oliveri snagged a career-high 9.8 that ranked third overall. Todd posted a 9.775 to cap off her day in the all-around with Odom tallying a 9.725. Gipson added a 9.675 and the Owls were forced to count a missed set from Everett who posted a 9.25 in the lead off position.
The Owls will now await the announcement of any individual qualifiers to the NCAA Regionals that will be held on April 1. The selection show is set for March 20. The Committee will select 24 all-around gymnasts and 48 individual event specialists along with the 36 qualifying teams.
