PHILADELPHIA – Temple University freshman Quinton Rose was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie team. Rose is one of five newcomers selected to the squad which is voted on by the league's coaches.
The 6-8 guard ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 10.0 ppg and is looking to become the first Temple freshman to average double figures for a season since Mark Tyndale tallied 12.5 points per game in 2004-05. The Rochester, N.Y. native (Bishop Kearney) earned a conference-best four Rookie of the Week honors during the season. He is currently tied for fifth in the league in steals per game (1.5), recently recording a career-high six steals in the Owls' win at USF on March 5. The six steals tied Pepe Sanchez and Mark Macon's record for the most in a game by a Temple freshman.
Rose has scored in double figures 17 times on the season, including a season-best 26 points in a win over then #25 Florida State. He is Temple's first All-Rookie Team selection since Lavoy Allen, now with the Indiana Pacers, earned a spot on the 2007-08 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Temple (16-15), the #8 seed, takes on #9 seed East Carolina (14-17) in the First Round of the Frontier Communications American Athletic Conference Championships Thursday (3:30 pm/ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT) at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
