4.1.17 | Women's Rowing
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Temple women's rowing team had a last-minute change of venue, but the Owls still nabbed a pair of victories, racing Drexel, Duquesne, and the Princeton lightweights on Saturday afternoon. With the Schuylkill River unrowable because of heavy rains on Friday, the Tigers stepped up to host the five-race event on Lake Carnegie.
Temple grabbed victories in the second varsity eight and second varsity four races, while grabbing second in both the varsity four and third varsity eight races.
In the second varsity eight race, Temple rowed to a six-second victory, finishing the course in 7:44.07. Princeton took second (7:51.86), followed by Duquesne (7:58.89) and Drexel (8:01.43).
Temple also came out on top in the second varsity four race. The Owls clocked in at 8:36.93, ahead of Duquesne (8:45.21) and Temple's novice four boat (9:06.09).
In varsity eight racing, Temple took fourth in a tight field. Princeton won it in 7:20.07, followed by Drexel (7:21.94), Duquesne (7:29.43) and the Owls (7:31.19).
The varsity four race saw Temple take second out of three boats. Drexel came out on top in 8:13.33, while Temple (8:21.91) and Duquesne (9:06.02) followed.
Rounding out the action for the Owls, the novice eight held their own in the third varsity eight race. Drexel's 3V was first in 7:54.37, with Temple right behind in 7:59.94. Duquesne took third in 8:27.61 with Drexel's N8 (8:35.67) and Princeton (8:45.31) rounding out the field.
Temple returns to action next weekend at the two-day Knecht Cup on the Schuylkill River.
