Track & Field Rounds out the Weekend at Colonial Relays
4.1.17 | Women's Track and Field
WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Temple women's track and field completed its second day of competition at the Colonial Relays in much better weather conditions. The squad's 4 x 1500 meter relay team took second overall in its first show of the season.
The Owls' first 4 x 1500 meter relay team was made up of Millie Howard, Katie Pinson, Katie Leisher, and Grace Moore. The group finished in 18:49.46 to earn second place out of the 24 teams, setting a school record for the event. Temple also ran a second relay team made up of Ashton Dunkley, Megan Schneider, Caitlin O'Brien, and Emily Nist; the group completed the race in 20:13.77.
"Each of our runners gave a solid effort in the 4 x1500 relay," said head coach Elvis Forde. "Millie, Katie, Katie, and Grace ran very well for their first time running the event with Temple. The second-place finish speaks volumes for them about how much they will improve considering the length of this race."
Leading the 4 x 200 meter race for the Owls was senior Bionca St. Fleur. At first leg, she set a steady pace for teammates Kenya Gaston, Jimmia McCluskey, and Simone Chapman. Overall the group finished sixth among the competition with a time of 1:40.09.
"Bionca had a great weekend," Forde stated. "I hope her performances this weekend will open her eyes to the potential she is capable of.
Overall the Owls will close out the weekend with four top-ten finishes and a new standard for the 4 x 1500 meter relay.
"I have to give our athletes credit for going out there and doing their best despite the terrible weather we had on the first day. It is so easy to give up in weather conditions like that, but our team kept pushing. However, it was well worth giving everyone a shot against great competition."
