Alston, Enechionyia Honored by Philadelphia Big 5

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University men's basketball standouts Shizz Alston, Jr. and Obi Enechionyia were named first and second team All-Philadelphia Big 5 in a vote of the league coaches and select media. Alston has also been named the Big 5's Most Improved Player.
Alston became only the second Temple sophomore to lead the Owls in scoring (13.9 ppg.), assists (4.1 apg.) and steals (1.7 spg.) for a season. He joined Temple and Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Famer Mark Macon with that accomplishment. The Philadelphia native improved his scoring average by 11.9 points and had 112 more assists and 49 more steals than his freshman season.
Enechionyia led the Owls in rebounding (5.8 rpg.)and three-pointers made (75) while ranking second in scoring (13.1 ppg.). He was named NIT Season Tip-Off MVP for leading Temple to wins over #25/RV Florida State and #19/17 West Virginia to mark the first time an Owl team had defeated ranked foes on consecutive days. He was also named Player of the Week by the NCAA, American and Big 5 for his heroics in those games.
The Big 5 banquet is set for Monday, April 17, at the Palestra. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the awards ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by clicking on this link. Along with the current season men's and women's award winners, the 2017 Big Five Hall of Fame class will be inducted. This year's class includes Carlene Hightower (La Salle), Ibrahim Jaaber (Penn), Jameer Nelson (Saint Joseph's), Lynn Greer (Temple), Randy Foye (Villanova), George Raveling (Villanova) and longtime Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriter Bill Lyon.
