Temple Women's Tennis Seeded Tenth in American Athletic Conference Tournament

PROVIDENCE, RI. – The Temple University  women's tennis team will head to the American Athletic Conference Championship as the tenth seed, the conference announced Monday. The women's tournament will be held April 19-22 and will be played at USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
 
The women's team posted an 11-12 record this season, going 1-3 in conference play. The Owls picked up a 4-3 win over UConn, but fell to Tulsa, USF, and Cincinnati. The women will face off against the USF Bulls in the opening round of the conference tournament as the #7/#10 matchup on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. ET/ 8 a.m. CT.

Senior Mariana Bedon (14-5) led the team with a 14-3 dual record, going 7-3 at the sixth flight and a 43-26 overall singles record concluding her regular season play. Junior Alina Abdurakhimova (12-9) finished with an 11-7 dual record, going 12-6 at the first flight, while classmate Dina Karina (11-8) finished with an 11-6 record, mainly at the fourth flight. Junior Yana Khon (11-9) played all across the board, finishing with a 10-8 dual record, while graduate student Galina Chernykh battled early season injuries to come back and post a 3-2 dual record. Junior Monet Stuckey-Willis posted 10-10 dual record mainly in the second flight.

In doubles, Khon and Abdurakhimova went 5-1 at the first flight, while Karina and Stuckey-Willis went 2-0 in the first and second flights.  Bedon and Anais Nussaume went 4-4 at the third flight to top off their senior season regular doubles play.

The women's quarterfinal matches will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT, with the semifinal matches being held on Friday at 3 p.m. ET/ 2 p.m. CT and the championship final taking place Saturday at 3 p.m. ET/ 2 p.m. CT.
