Women's Tennis Falls to Seventh Seeded USF in First Round of American Athletic Conference Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. -Â In the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championships, the tenth-seeded Temple women's tennis team fell 4-0 to the No. 7 USF Bulls on Wednesday morning. The Owls season ends with an 11-13 record.
In doubles, the Bearcats picked up the first point as Vera Bessanova and Olga Martinez defeated Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon, 6-4 at the first flight, while Nicole Dzenga and Ana Roman Dominguez posted a 6-2 win at the third flight over Mariana Bedon and Monet Stuckey-Willis. The match between duos Jessica Cortes Chaves and Juliana Cardoso and Dina Karina and Anais Nussaume did not finish in the second flight.
The Owls were swept in singles play, as Cardoso defeated Galina Chernykh at the third flight, 6-1, 6-2. Dzenga was able to continue the momentum for USF after taking a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bedon at the fourth flight and teammate Cortes Chaves gave the Bulls the win after defeating Karina, 6-0, 6-3 at the fifth flight.
Roman Dominguez and Abdurakhimova were unable to finish their match in the first flight in addition to Bessanova and Stuckey-Willis and Martinez and Khon in the second and sixth flights.
