Travis Mahoney Wins 3000M Steeplechase at Penn Relays
4.28.17 | Men's Cross Country
PHILADELPHIA – While temple women's track and field wrapped up its first day of competition of the 123rd Penn Relays on Thursday, All-American Travis Mahoney ran the men's 3000-meter steeple chase. The Temple alum crossed the finish line with a winning time of 8:50.32, to top 31 competitors.
The steeplechase is one of Penn Relays' most distinctive Thursday night events comprised of a mix of distance race, hurdling, and splashing through a shallow pool of water. As the sun went down on Franklin Field, Mahoney toed an all too familiar starting line once again. The former Temple men's cross country/track and field athlete was known for his distance efforts during his time as an undergraduate. Today, he competes for the Hoka New Jersey-New York Track Club. Mahoney holds four schools records for the former men's track and field program including the 3000-meter steeplechase record set in 2012 (8:36.10). A New Jersey native, Mahoney also serves as the distance coach at his alma mater, Old Bridge High School.
