Dad Vail Day One in the Books for Temple Crew

PHILADELPHIA — With day one of the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta in the books, the Temple men's crew team has qualified to compete in eight finals. The Owls will compete in the grand finals in the varsity four, lightweight eight, freshman eight and freshman four, and the petite finals in the varsity eight, lightweight four, JV four, and single.
In the premiere event, Temple fell just short of a grand finals berth, as just 2.4 seconds separated the first through third spots in the varsity eight semis. Needing to finish in the top two, the Owls found themselves behind Saint Joseph's (5:49.242) and North Carolina (5:50.750) with Temple's time of 5:51.602 missing the mark by the slimmest of margins.
Temple's varsity four, and freshman eight and fours all advanced to the top level finals in their categories. The varsity four took second in their semifinal in 6:45.29, while both freshman boats won their semis. The eight clocked in at 6:15.41, while the four recorded a time of 6:54.03.
Temple's lightweight eight will also race in the top level final, not needing to race on Friday.
The Owls will race in second level finals in the JV four, the lightweight four, and single tomorrow. The lightweight four took fourth of six in their semifinal, clocking in at 6:57.25, while the JV four matched that finish, in a time of 7:09.17. Rowing in a single, freshman Jeremy Leeds took third in his semifinal, clocking in at 7:58.18.
