5.13.17 | Men's Crew

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple men's crew team grabbed four medals at the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta, taking three silvers and one bronze on the final day of racing at the historic event. In all, Temple entered eight events and finished in eighth place or higher in all eight.

Earning silver medals for Temple were the lightweight eight, the freshman eight, and the freshman four, while the varsity four nabbed bronze. Freshman Jeremy Leeds won the petite final in the men's single, taking seventh overall, while the varsity eight, JV four, and lightweight four all finished second in the petite finals to grab eighth.

Opening the racing action, the Owls' varsity eight was second to only Michigan in the second level final. The Wolverines finished in 5:46.9, while Temple was right behind in 5:49.8. Both crew topped Marietta, Grand Valley, Lehigh, and Middlebury.

Up next, the lightweight eight had a photo finish in a tight race with Delaware and Mercyhurst. The Blue Hens took first in 5:46.5, while the Owls were second to take silver in 5:48.4. Mercyhurst was right off of Temple's time, grabbing bronze, followed by Purdue, Michigan, and Iona.

Another Temple medal followed, as the varsity four got the bronze in another photo finish. Georgia Tech won in 6:19.8, followed by Colgate in 6:23.1. Temple just nipped Bowdoin for third, clocking in at 6:32.2 to the Polar Bears' 6:32.5. Cincinnati and Stetson rounded out the field.

The next two races saw Temple take second in petite finals in the lightweight four and the JV four. The lightweight four was just off of Georgia Tech (6:48.4), recording a time of 6:53.0, while the JV four was second to Michigan (6:46.6) by just a hair, finishing in 6:46.8.

Two more silver medals followed for the Owls, landing on the podium in both the freshman eight and the freshman four races. The eight finished in 5:55.1, behind Drexel's 5:51.6, and ahead of Delaware, Michigan, Purdue, and Minnesota. The freshman four recorded a time of 6:38.2, just behind Colgate's 6:31.0. They were ahead of Mercyhurt, Michigan, Toronto, and Middlebury.

Closing the day, Leeds won the petite final in a time of 7:35.9. He was just under five seconds ahead of his competitor from Clarkson, and also topped singles from TCNJ, Delaware, and Chicago.
