GRAND LAKE, Colo. - For the second year in a row, two graduated seniors of Temple lacrosse have been selected to play in the IWLCA North/South Senior All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday, June 3. All-Region Second Team and All-BIG EAST First Team honorees Morgan Glassford and Brenda McDermott have earned the honor, and will match-up with many of the best seniors in the nation.
The BIG EAST Conference has a total of seven representatives, with student-athletes from UConn, Georgetown, and Marquette also competing.
The Senior All-Star games for Divisions I, II, and III will all be held on Tierney Field at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. with the Division I teams starting the action at 11:30 am. Admission is free of charge and the games will also be web-streamed live on IWLCA-tv.com.
Glassford is a two-time IWLCA All-Region Second Team selection as well as a two-time BIG EAST First Team honoree. She led the Owls with 73 draw controls in 2017 which ranks second all-time in a single season in program history, only behind her own top mark of 78 in 2016. She finished her career with a program record 174 draw controls.
Glassford scored 26 goals to rank third on the team, also ranking third with 14 assists and collecting 40 total points. She was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week three times (Feb. 28, March 7, May 2), and finished the season with three total hat tricks.
Also an IWLCA All-Region Second Team selection in 2017 as well as a two-time BIG EAST First Team honoree, McDermott led Temple in both goals (42) and assists (32) for 74 total points this season. Her 32 assists rank second all-time in a single season in program history, while her 54 career assists rank ninth all-time. McDermott was named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week on Feb. 14 after a season-opening win at Rutgers, and recorded eight hat tricks including six straight from March 25 to April 15.
McDermott tallied six assists in an 18-16 win vs. Monmouth on Feb. 15, ranking as the second-most in a single game in program history. She tied her career high with five goals in the final game of the season against #2 Florida in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals. After overcoming years of injuries to become a standout for the Owls, McDermott was named Temple's NovaCare Comeback Student-Athlete of the Year at the annual Celebration of Champions on April 30.
Alums Jaqi Kakalecik ('16) and Rachel Schwaab ('16) represented the Owls in the 2016 North/South Senior All-Star Game. The pair were Temple's first representatives in the game since Charlotte Swavola and Stephany Parcell played for the South Team in 2013.
