PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's sports medicine staff is expanding by two, with the addition of newly-hired assistant athletic trainers Fafa Tsikata and Beth Ward. Tsikata will work with the field hockey and women's tennis teams, while Ward is responsible for women's track & field as well as the men's and women's cross country teams.
"We are extremely excited to add Fafa and Beth to our sports medicine team," said David Borchardt, Associate Director of Athletic Training. "Both are highly motivated, passionate athletic trainers who will help Temple Athletics to continue to provide optimal medical care for our student-athletes."
Tsikata came to Temple from Bucknell University, where she spent four years as an assistant athletic trainer working with the baseball and women's soccer teams. She earned her master's degree in health promotion: sports psychology from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013 when she was one year into her position at Bucknell, after earning her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Lock Haven University in 2010.
While completing requirements for her master's, Tsikata worked for ATI Physical Therapy in Newark, Del., as an outreach athletic trainer. Her role led to stints at both Red Lion Christian Academy and Mount Pleasant High School in addition to clinical responsibilities. Prior to enrolling at Cal U, Tsikata served as an athletic training intern at Savannah State University where she had involvement with the baseball, football and women's basketball teams.
Tsikata has been a board certified athletic trainer since 2010, and has held a Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine license since 2012. She is a member of both the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society.
Ward comes to Temple after completing her master's degree in athletic training at West Chester University in May, 2017. During her two years in school, Ward served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ursinus College, primarily covering women's gymnastics while also assisting with football and track & field.
From 2012-15, Ward lived in Texas, first working as a certified athletic trainer at the Texas Health & Wellness Center in Allen for one year before spending two years at Heritage High School in Frisco as the head female athletic trainer.
Ward earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Greensboro College in North Carolina, and was an athletic training student throughout her four years there. In 2016, she was awarded a Research and Education Foundation Scholarship from the National Athletic Training Association (NATA). She has been a certified athletic trainer since 2012, and a licensed athletic trainer in Pennsylvania since 2015.
