Volleyball Set for Albany Invitational

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will take part in its second non-conference tournament of the season this weekend, competing at Albany's Desmond Hotel Invitational. The Owls will play Colgate, St. John's, and Albany at the event.
TEMPLE SCHEDULE
> Friday: Temple vs. Colgate at 5:00 p.m.
> Saturday: Temple vs. St. John's at 10:30 a.m./Temple vs. Albany at 7:00 p.m.
THE OWLS
> Temple is coming off a 1-2 showing at the Maryland Invitational.
> After a sweep of Northeastern, the Owls fell 3-1 to UMBC and 3-2 to Maryland.
> Senior Izzy Rapacz leads Temple with 2.67 kills per set, while also tallying 2.08 digs per frame.
> Redshirt Freshman Dana Westfield saw her first collegiate action at Maryland, and racked up 2.42 kills per set in three matches.
> Senior Janine Simmons (2.00 kills/set) and sophomore Iva Deak (1.55 kills/set; 1.91 blocks/set) shore up the middle for the Owls.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides ran the Temple offense with 8.08 assists per set, also landing second on the team with 2.42 digs per frame.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji leads all Temple players with 3.25 digs.
> Temple hits .211 as a team, holding opponents to a .180 attack.
SCOUTING COLGATE
> Colgate is 3-0 on the season, opening the 2017 campaign by topping Niagra, Siena, and Syracuse at the Syracuse Invitational.
>Â Katie Stansbury and Alli Lowe both average over 3.60 kills per set for Colgate.
>Â Peighton McRobie averages 5.40 digs per set as the Raiders' libero.
> Colgate has held opponents to just a .080 attack, while hitting .255 as a team.
>Â Temple is 2-1 all-time against Colgate, with the last meeting coming in 2000.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
>Â St. John's is 3-1 to start the season.
>Â The Red Storm grabbed wins over Holy Cross, Sacramento State, and UNH, but fell to UConn at the Jack Kaiser Classic.
>Â Julia Cast (3.77 kills/set) and Jordan McCalla (3.54 kills/set) are the top hitters for St. John's.
>Â Delaney D'Amore (4.08 digs/set) and Amanda Sanabia (4.15 digs/set) split the Libero duties for the Red Storm.
> St. John's hits at a .235 clip, with opponents attacking at a .232 average.
>Â Temple is 3-1 against St. John's, with the last meeting a 3-0 Temple win in 2015.
SCOUTING ALBANY
>Â Albany is 0-3 on the season, opening at the tough USC/LMU Invitational.
>Â The Great Danes fell in straight sets to #16 Michigan and Loyola Marymount, before grabbing a set in a 3-1 loss to USC.
> Akubata Okenwa leads the Albany offense to the tune of 3.50 kills per set.
> Nicole Otero leads the Great Dane defense, tallying 3.70 digs per frame.
> As a team, Albany hits .159, allowing opponents a .285 attack.
