Football Looks for Second Straight Home Win; Takes on UMass

PHILADELPHIA - Temple (1-1) is set to take on the UMass Minutemen (0-3) in a non-conference matchup under the Friday night lights at Lincoln Financial Field. This will be the second consecutive home game for the Owls as they look to pick up their second straight victory.

Last week, Temple took down the Villanova Wildcats, 16-13. In the game, sophomore kicker Aaron Boumerhi nailed a 49-yard field goal with one minute remaining to win the game for the Owls. Redshirt sophomore QB Logan Marchi started his second straight game, throwing 20 of 34 for 274 yards. Redshirt junior WR Ventell Bryant caught seven passes for 79 yards - moving him into 11th all-time in receptions and receiving yards.

The Minutemen are coming off their third straight loss, 17-7 against Old Dominion. In the game, QB Andrew Ford threw 21 of 32 for 236 yards including a 60-yard touchdown pass to WR Andy Isabella. Isabella would finish the game with five catches, 105 yards and the touchdown.

The Friday night matchup is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field and will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Last time vs. UMass
Temple last played UMass on Sept. 19, 2015 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. In the game, the Owls topped the Minutemen 25-23. Temple quarterback Phillip Walker threw for 391 yards and a touchdown. Temple took a 20-17 lead into the final minutes when UMass scored a touchdown with 1:20 left to play. The PAT was blocked and returned by Will Hayes, making it 23-22. Kicker Austin Jones nailed the game-winning field goal with 12 seconds remaining.


Game Notes
-Since 2015, Temple football is nearly perfect in Friday night games. The Owls have a 4-1 record over that span and have outscored opponents 177-108.

-The last time the Minutemen faced a Geoff Collins led defense was for their season opener in 2016 (9/3) against the Florida Gators. In that game, Collins' defense gave up just seven points and only 187 yards of total offense.

-Last time the Owls played the Minutemen, kicker Austin Jones booted a game winner with 12 seconds reamining. Last week against Villanova, kicker Aaron Boumerhi booted a career-long 49-yard field goal to win the game for the Owls with one minute remaining.

-UMass head coach Mark Whipple will be returning to Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field on Friday. The 10th-year Minutemen head coach spent the 2008 season as an offensive assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.
