ITHACA, N.Y. – Redshirt junior John Barone shot a one-under 70 for the third straight day to lead Temple Golf to a season opening win in the 16-team Cornell Invitational Sunday. Barone (-3) placed second overall and was edged for medalist by a 40-foot birdie putt by Yale's James Nicholas. Temple freshman Dawson Anders had the best round for the Owls Sunday, carding a three-under 68 to finish tied for seventh overall in his first collegiate tournament.
Keys to the Tournament
> Three of Temple's golfers shot par or below par with junior Gary McCabe firing an even par 71 to join Anders and Barone.
> Junior Sam Soeth rounded out the Temple scores with a two-over 73.
> Barone had four more birdies on Sunday and a total of 11 over the three rounds, by far his best outing as an Owl.
> Playing as an individual, sophomore Marty McGuckin had his best finish as an Owl, shooting a one-over 214 to tie for 10th place overall.

"I am pleased with the way we played and competed today for our first day back in tournament play. I am real happy, .but hopefully tomorrow we can play a real strong mental round out there on the golf course. We will need to if we want to win." – Temple head coach Brian Quinn
