Field Hockey Hosts Sacred Heart Sunday in Support of Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer

9.23.17 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey returns to action at home on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m., facing Sacred Heart in the Owls' "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" game. Help Temple reach its fundraising goal of $1,000 by donating at its Go4TheGoal website.

Promotions
> Temple is dedicating Sunday's game to the Go4TheGoal Foundation's "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" initiative. Last year, the Owls raised over $1500 in support of the foundation. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and inserts will be placed in each game program to provide information about pediatric cancer and how you can help.

Scouting the Owls
> Temple held UConn, the No. 1 team in the nation, scoreless for over 52 minutes in its BIG EAST opener on Friday night.
> The Owls eventually lost 4-1, but put up an impressive effort in the backfield all night long, which included seven saves for junior Chloe Johnson and a defensive save for sophomore Kathryn Edgar.
> Temple comes into Sunday's game with an overall record of 2-6, getting its second win last weekend by a score of 3-1 at Holy Cross.
> The Owls trailed 1-0 at halftime at Holy Cross, but got two goals from senior Rachael Mueller in a three-goal second half. Johnson, who has now started two games in a row, made a career-high eight saves in her first career start for the Owls.
> Mueller, named to this week's BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, leads the Owls with four goals and four assists for 12 total points. Keer and Edgar have scored two goals each, and both have recorded one assist as well.
> With nine defensive saves, the Owls lead all teams in NCAA Division I. Junior Nellie Doyle, sophomore Kathryn Edgar, redshirt junior Ashley Kucera and freshman Dani Batze lead the way with two defensive saves each.

Scouting Sacred Heart
> Sacred Heart is 3-5 overall coming into Sunday's game after a 4-1 win vs. Towson on Friday.
> The win on Friday broke a three-game losing streak for the Pioneers, who had suffered two shutouts in a row before falling 4-1 at Hofstra on Sept. 17.
> Last year, Sacred Heart struggled to a 1-15 overall record under first-year head coach Sydney Van Der Merwe.
> Bridget LaRiccia leads SHU with three goals, while Nichole Tolli has two goals along with a team-best three assists.

All-Time vs. Sacred Heart
> Temple has won both meetings against Sacred Heart in the all-time series.
> The Owls won 3-0 at home in 2013, and earned a 3-2 overtime win on the road last season. Current Temple senior Rachael Mueller scored the OT game-winner, one of two goals she tallied in the victory.
