Men's Basketball Pulls Away From Penn in 60-51 Big 5 Win

PHILADELPHIA (Palestra) - Holding the Quakers (12-6) without a point in the final four minutes, Temple men's basketball (10-9) closed on a 12-0 run to win 60-51 in a Philadelphia Big 5 contest on Saturday afternoon. The Owls complete their city series for the season at 2-2 overall, while Penn drops to 0-3.
Keys to the Game
> The Owls held Penn to just 28 percent shooting overall from the floor (17-of-60).
> After a tight first half, Temple started the second with a 14-1 run and led by as many as 12 on two occasions.
> The Quakers came all the way back to tie and take a three-point lead with four minutes left, but did not score again.
Individual Highlights
> Obi Enechionyia led all players with 15 points and added a team-best nine rebounds.
> Also scoring in double figures for the Owls was Shizz Alston, Jr. with 14 points, and Josh Brown added eight.
> Ryan Betley and AJ Brodeur led Penn with 12 points apiece, and Max Rothschild pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

> Eight different players got on the board for Temple in the period, with Enechionyia, Brown and Moore II all finishing with a team-best five points.

> Eight total points including two treys for Enechionyia were part of a 14-1 opening run that put Temple on top by 12, 38-26 at 14:23.
> The Owls led by 12 once more before a 9-2 Penn run made it a five-point game near the midway point.
> It was back to an eight-point lead for Temple before the Quakers scored seven unanswered to come within one, 46-45 with 6:37 left.
> Just past the five-minute mark, Penn tied the game on a Caleb Wood three-pointer and took its first lead of the half on another three by AJ Brodeur, but his shot at 4:02 would be the Quakers' final points of the game.
> Alston answered with a trey for another tie, 51-51 at 3:45, starting a 12-0 closing run that included a big three-pointer by Brown as well.
> Enechionyia and Alston each hit 2-of-2 at the line in the final 19 seconds to seal the win.
