Men's Basketball Hosts UConn on Sunday Night; Honors 1992-93 Team

PHILADELPHIA - After two road games, Temple men's basketball returns home for two straight, starting with an 8 p.m. contest against UConn (11-9, 4-3) on Sunday, Jan. 28 (ESPN2 / 1210 AM WPHT). The Owls (10-10, 2-6) had won two in a row before falling at #9/8 Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Promotions
> Two of Temple's Elite Eight teams will be honored at upcoming games this season, starting with the 1992-93 team at Sunday's game vs. UConn.
> That group, celebrating its 25th Anniversary, posted a 20-13 overall record under the direction of Hall of Fame coach John Chaney.
> Led by juniors Aaron McKie (20.6 ppg) and Eddie Jones (17.0 ppg), the 1992-93 Temple team was the seventh seed in the West Region. The Owls defeated 10th-seed Missouri, 75-61, and 15-seed Santa Clara, 68-57, to advance to the Sweet 16.

> Temple had won two straight before a big loss at #9/8 Cincinnati earlier this week, shooting a season-low 28.6 percent and committing a season-high 20 turnovers in a 75-42 loss to the Bearcats.
> Nine players scored for the Owls at Cincinnati, but not a single one reached double figures for the first time this season.
> The Owls went 2-0 last week with a nail-biting, 59-58 win vs. Tulsa and a 60-51 Philadelphia Big 5 win at Penn. The Owls led by 12 early in the second half at Penn, but the Quakers came all the way back and took a three-point lead with four minutes left before not scoring again. Temple closed the game with 12 unanswered points.
> Ten of Temple's 20 games have been decided by five or fewer points, and the Owls are 5-5 in those contests.
> Rose is the Owls' leading scorer with 14.1 ppg, ranking 11th in the league. Junior Shizz Alston, Jr. is averaging 12.9 ppg (16th in the AAC).

Scouting UConn
> The Huskies have had an up-and-down season but are coming off a big win vs. SMU, 63-52 on Thursday.
> UConn is 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the AAC including a double-overtime loss at Tulsa on Jan. 3.
> For a second year in a row, junior guard Jalen Adams leads the Huskies in scoring, averaging 18.5 points along with a team-best 4.2 assists per game.
> The Huskies lead the conference in free-throw shooting at 74.9 percent. They have made nearly 100 more free throws than the Owls (290 to 193), and taken just over 100 more (387 to 282).
> UConn is two years removed from its last NCAA Tournament appearance, going 16-17 last season and falling to Cincinnati in the AAC Semifinals.

> Temple and UConn are meeting for the 17th time, with UConn leading 9-7 in the series after winning three straight.
