2.9.18 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - The start of the 2018 season has arrived for Temple lacrosse, who hosts region rival Rutgers on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. The Owls will play 11 of their 17 regular-season games at Howarth Field after going 7-1 during the inaugural season on the new field last year.

Scouting Temple
> Temple is coming off a 13-5 season that saw the Owls make their second-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since joining the league as an associate member in 2014. They fell 21-9 to #2 Florida in the BIG EAST Semifinals.
> This season will be Temple's last in the BIG EAST Conference, with the American Athletic Conference adding women's lacrosse starting in the 2018-19 season.
> Last year was the Owls' first at Howarth Field, and they finished the season with an impressive home record of 7-1.
> With its 13-2 start in 2017, Temple tied the best start for the program since the 1997 season.
> Last year's Temple team was picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST, but bettered that spot by one to earn a tournament berth.
> In 2018, the Owls have been picked to finish fourth of 10 teams in the Preseason BIG EAST Coaches Poll.
> The Owls lost their four leading scorers to graduation at the end of last season, including BIG EAST First Team and All-Region Second Team honoree Brenda McDermott (42 goals, 32 assists).
> Team captains for 2018, as voted on by the Owls, are seniors Kira Gensler and Nicole Latgis along with sophomore Kara Nakrasius.
> Latgis, a defender and 2017 BIG EAST Second Team honoree, was a unanimous selection to the 2018 BIG EAST Preseason Team.
> Head Coach Bonnie Rosen is now in her 12th season at the helm. She stands at 165-174 after 21 years as a head coach, and is 97-93 at Temple (11 years), needing just three wins to reach 100.

Scouting Rutgers
> The Scarlet Knights finished 2017 with an 8-8 record, which included victories over Big Ten opponents Ohio State and Michigan.
> Seniors Amanda Casten and Kerri Puckhaber and sophomore Samantha Budd were selected as Big Ten Players to watch in 2018. Casten is a two-time All-Big Ten selection.
> As a team, the Scarlet Knights were picked to finish fifth among the seven Big Ten teams in 2018.
> Rutgers returns nine starters from last year. Puckhaber, one of three captains, finished 2017 with 12 goals and 10 assists. Budd scored 15 goals and added five assists as a freshman, and was second on the team with 29 draw controls.
> Head Coach Laura Brand-Sias is in her 16th season with the program, and is 121-126 all-time with the Scarlet Knights.

All-Time Series
> Temple leads Rutgers 16-6 in the all-time series, and has won three straight.
> Last season, the Owls defeated the Scarlet Knights 13-11 on the road in the 2017 opener. The last time the teams met at Temple, the Owls won 16-9 in 2016.
