The winningest coach in Temple history, he has led the Owls to national prominence. Appointed head baseball coach in 1960 after one year as assistant to current Director of Athletics Ernie Casale. He has continually ranked high among active college baseball coaches with his brilliant winning percentage. His teams produced 447 victories during his first 21 seasons as head coach. He was named District Coach of the Year in 1972, 1977 and 1978. He led the Owls into the College World Series in 1972 and 1977 and to six East Coast Conference (or its predecessor Middle Atlantic Conference) championships. Temple won the ECC East title seven times under his direction. From 1975 to 1978, the Owls won the overall ECC Championship and the automatic NCAA Tournament bid that goes with it.
