The Temple baseball team defeated Pennsylvania, 5-4, in 10 innings on March 28 in the first round
of the Liberty Bell Classic at Veterans Stadium.
The Owls (7-11-2) got off to a good start when second baseman Jim Tully launched a home run to
start the game. However, Penn would recover and take a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning. The Owls
tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Cap Poklemba lifted a sacrifice fly that
scored Sam Sabolchick. The game would go to extra innings before Kyle Sweppenhiser
laced a single into right center field to drive in the winning run.
