TEMPLE CREW CAPTURES MURPHY CUP
 

 
 
 

 

 
 

PHILADELPHIA -  Temple Crew hosted the 23rd Annual Murphy Cup Regatta on the Saturday, March 26.  With 18 schools competing on the Schuylkill River, Temple emerged on top winning the points trophy with 40 points earned by both the men's and women's crews. 

 

The Owls performed well with the Varsity A boat of Michael Fitzpatrick (cox), Thomas Burke (stroke), Brian Campbell (7-seat), Thomas Haubrich (6-seat), Robert Protesto (5-seat), Dante Cammarata (4-seat), Mike Shisler (3-seat), Logan Hoffman (2-seat), and Joe Spencer (bow) and the Varsity B boat of Carmen Conicelli (cox), Andreas Mantzoukas (stroke), Matt Hanlin (7-seat), Chris Bushek (6-seat), Don Powers (5-seat), Bill Gennaro (4-seat), James Harding (3-seat), Michael McVeigh (2-seat), and Pat McMahon (bow) both qualifying for the finals in the Varsity 8 event.  Temple B took second place while Temple A finished fifth in the six boat race. Saint Joseph's won the event in a time of 5:46.00 and was followed by Temple B (5:49.57), George Washington (5:52.69), Army (5:55.91), Temple A (6:00.30), and Dowling (6:06.05). 

 

The Temple Varsity 4 of Dante Castellani (cox), McVeigh (stroke), Tim Malloy (3-seat), John Peterson (2-seat), and Pat White (bow) raced to a fourth place finish in the six boat race won by Dowling B (6:35.00). Army A placed second (6:42.39) followed by Carnegie Mellon A (6:45.71), Temple (6:48.22), Lehigh A (6:51.67), and Pittsburgh (7:08.59).  The Temple Novice 4 of Garho Kametani (cox), Jason Hart (stroke), Nicholas Vlahos (3-seat), Ben Carroll (2-seat), and Josiah Mount (bow) captured a second place finish in the six boat final.  Pitt (6:49.54) won the event followed by Temple (6:58.72), Lehigh (7:15.38), Carnegie Mellon A (7:19.21), Villanova (7:19.88), and Dowling (7:37.73).

 

The Varsity 8 heads to sunny San Diego for the San Diego Crew Classic next weekend.
