PHILADELPHIA (April 2) - The men's and women's crew teams competed in the 2001 Knecht Cup on the Cooper River Course in Camden, New Jersey March 31. Forty-three various teams participated in the event including Villanova, LaSalle, Lehigh, Navy and Princeton. The men were victorious in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and the Second Varsity Eight. The Owls placed two boats in the top three in the Varsity Four. The "A" boat finished first with a time of 6:41.63 with the "B" boat placing third (7:02.78). In the Varsity Eight, Temple won by 11 seconds with a time of 6:02.53 defeating Dowling, Villanova, St. Joseph's, Boston College and Skidmore. The Owls also finished first in the Second Varsity Eight beating St. Joseph's by five seconds rowing a time of 6:31.76. For the women, the Varsity Four placed fourth overall with a time of 8:13.27 and the Frosh/Novice Eight finished fifth rowing a time of 7:40.88. Both teams will compete on April 7 and 8 in the San Diego Crew Classic.
