PHILADELPHIA -- The upset of the spring crew season occurred on Saturday, May 11 at the annual Dad Vail Regatta as Dowling (5:39.5) edged the Temple men's varsity eight (5:40.9) by just over one second in the finals of the men's varsity heavyweight 8. The Owls had won the event for 13 straight years and 18 out of the past 19.
The men's novice four captured first place and the Lindy Cup with a time of 6:38.1, beating the second place team, Santa Clara, by almost seven seconds. The junior varsity men's eight took second place in their race with a time of 5:54.9.
In women's action, the women's varsity eight advanced to the semi-final heat where they finished in sixth place with a time of 6:49.9.
