After leading the United States Men's Eight rowing team to gold in the 2004 Olympic Games, former Temple Owl Jason Read ('00) and the rest of the men's eight were voted one of the USOC's "Most Amazing Moments in Olympic History." The crew, who set a world record of five minutes and 19.85 seconds in a preliminary heat, gave the United States its first Olympic gold since 1964.
The junior varsity eight salvaged the day for the Temple Crew by winning the gold medal at the 71st Dad Vail Regatta Saturday afternoon. The Owls' freshman/novice four took home the bronze medal. Three of the four Temple men's crew boats that took the Schullykill River Friday in the 71st Dad Vail Regatta. The first day of racing was done via time 1500 meter time trials instead of normal heats due to river conditions. Temple Crew takes to the waters of the Schuylkill River starting Friday at the Dad Vail Regatta. The men's varsity 8, winners of 21 of the past 25 Dad Vail Regattas, are seeded fourth this year after winning gold at the Bergen Cup two weeks ago.
