PHILADELPHIA - The Temple football team dodged thunderstorms for a scrimmage during the 12th spring practice session at Edberg-Olson Hall on Saturday afternoon. More than 75 high school coaches were in attendance.

As a prelude to next weekend's Cherry & White spring game, the Cherry and White squads scrimmaged a full game, with the Cherry claiming a 25-9 win. Redshirt junior PK Jake Brownell booted four field goals, including a 44-yarder in the fourth quarter. The Cherry also scored two touchdowns, a 71-yard toss from junior QB Vaughn Charlton to senior WR Travis Shelton and a one-yard run by sophomore WR Marquise Liverpool.

For the White squad, sophomore WR Nyles Bynum scored following a blocked punt, and the team had a safety in the third quarter.

Overall, for the Cherry redshirt senior FB Marcellous Grigsby led the rushers with 28 yards on seven carries. Shelton was the top receiver, netting 107 yards on four catches. Chalton went 12-of-24 on the day for 158 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, junior DB Wilbert Brinson had seven tackles and a sack.

For the White, freshman TB Jared Williams led the rushing attack with 42 yards on 15 carries. Sophomore WR Michael Campbell was the top receiver with three catches for 17 yards. Redshirt freshman QB Chester Stewart was 8-of19 for 37 yards. Defensively, sophomore LB Peanut Joseph finished with 10 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss of 14 yards.

Following each day of spring practice, the coaching staff awards a "Player of the Day" for the offense, defense, and special teams. Today's honorees were WR Travis Shelton (offense), LB Peanut Joseph (defense), and SS Dominique Harris (special teams).

Temple's next practice is Tuesday, April 15.

Temple opens the 2008 season at Army on Friday, August 29. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. before a national television audience on ESPNU or ESPN Classic. The Owls host Connecticut on Sept. 6 at Lincoln Financial Field in their home opener.
