NEWPORT, RI - Junior Eric Plisko and senior Kevin Busteed each carded 75s on Tuesday at Newport National Golf Club as the Temple golf team finished 12th at the Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by Rhode Island. Plisko shot a consistent 75-74-75=224 (+8) to tie for 20th, while Busteed shot a 77-74-75=226 (+10) to tie for 29th. in the 84-player field.
Senior Paul Amess was the next Owl on the scorecard with a 75-81-80=236 (+20) and finished 62nd. Senior Adam Pifer (89-76-79=244) and sophomore Andrew Mason (79-84-81=244) tied for 77th with +28 scores.
As a team, Temple shot a 306-305-309=920 (+56) to tie for 12th in the 16-team field. Texas A&M won the team title with a 286-280-290=856 (-8), 13 strokes ahead of Minnesota (+5). Francis Marion (+25), Southern Miss (+27) and Furman (+29) rounded out the top five.
Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon ran away with the individual title by seven shots, carding a 69-66-69=204 (-12), one of two players under par. The Aggies' Andrea Pavan was in second with a 69-72-70=211 (-5).
Temple is idle until traveling to the Leo Keenan Invitational at St. Bonaventure on October 5-6.
