Junior Jerry Chen captured his first collegiate tournament title as the Temple men's golf team placed 13th out of 18 squads at the Treasure Coast Classic in Port St. Lucie, Fla., March 13-14, 2003. Chen, who shared the individual title with Saint John's Andrew Svoboda (71-71) shot a two-round 142, including a second-round 70, to earn his sixth career top 10 finish.

The tournament, played at par 72 PGA Country Club, was the Owls' first event of the spring season.

Temple shot a two-round 628 (312-316) to finish 44 strokes behind tournament champion Florida Gulf Coast University (292-292=584). The Owls placed ahead of Eastern rivals Saint John's (14th, 318-316=644) and Delaware (17th, 337-323=660).

Junior Matt Roberts (77-84) and sophomore Billy Mullen (78-83) finished tied for 59th with 161 tallies. Junior James Chan placed 67th (85-79=164) while sophomore Pat O'Neill finished 87th (85-88=173).

The Owls, under the direction of second-year head coach Bill Mannino, return to the greens March 24-25 at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
