PHILADELPHIA- A field of 14 teams is set to compete this week in the Temple Invitational Golf Tournament, which will be played for a second-straight year at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, PA. The 36-hole competition will begin Friday morning and conclude Saturday afternoon.
Coach John McDonald's Owls will host Central Connecticut State, Delaware, Drexel, Georgetown, Loyola (Maryland), Princeton, Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova and William & Mary. Georgia State, which won the 1999 competition, will not have an opportunity to defend its title.
Located between Scranton and Wilkes Barre in Northeast Pennsylvania, the Glenmaura National Golf Club was the site of the NCAA Men's Division I East Regional last spring. Considered among the nation's finest emerging championship facilities, the naturally beautiful and extremely challenging course at Glenmaura is rated at 74.8 from the back tees. It measures over 6,900 yards, has a slope rating of 144 and a par of 71.
Now in its seventh year of operation, Glenmaura already ranks among the top 10 courses in the state of Pennsylvania. It was selected among the 10 best new private courses in America by Golf Digest Magazine in 1995. In addition to last year's NCAA East Regional, the course has served as a stop on the prestigious buy.com circuit and has also hosted the Pennsylvania State Mid-Amateur, Senior Amateur and Girls' Junior Amateur.
