PHILADELPHIA- Current Owl, Junior John Vogtman, qualified as first alternate in the 2007 U.S. Visa Championships for the senior session being held on Friday, August 17, 2007.

After Wednesday's competition, Vogtman placed 23^rd all-around in the senior session. From the first session competition, 36 men advance to the final day of competition based on a point system that awards credit based on performance. Vogtman's point total placed him in a tie for 36^th. Due to tie-breaking rules, Vogtman's competitor advanced and Vogtman was made first alternate. The competition is being held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Vogtman helped lead Temple to the ECAC-EIGL Championships and a berth in the NCAA Championships in 2007. He won the vault competition at the ECAC-EIGL Championships held at Temple's McGonigle Hall and also placed third in the all-around competition. At the NCAA's in 2007, he was one of two Owls to advance to the second day of individual competition, placing on the pommel horse.

Named to the All-America Scholar-Athletes for 2007 by the College Gymnastics Association and was named to the 2006-07 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's At-Large Performer of the Year. Vogtman was also named the 2006 ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year as a freshman. The Baltimore, MD native is on the Dean's List and maintains a 3.65 cumulative G.P.A.
