Final Stats

AMBLER, PA - Junior midfielder J.T. Noone dished two assists to break a Temple single season mark and scored the game-winning goal in helping the Owls post their biggest win in five seasons, a 4-2 upset of #22-ranked Dayton on Friday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex.  The Owls victory marks their first-ever win over a ranked opponent at Ambler Sports Complex and the program’s first over a ranked foe since a 1-0 win at Duquesne on October 19, 2003.

Junior midfielder Augustin Coly also netted two goals as the Cherry and White improved to 8-4-3, 4-1-1 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers fell to 11-3-2, 5-1-1.

The Owls overpowered the Flyers in the first half, out shooting the visitors, 16-4.  Temple opened the scoring in the 9th minute of the game when A-10 assists leader J.T. Noone scored his sixth goal of the season off a rebound from a shot by junior Mike Puppolo.  Minutes later, freshman Tyler Witmer headed home a pass from sophomore Max Kinderwater.

The Owls found the back of the net one more time before the first half was over.  Noone sent a shot on goal that was blocked by Flyers keeper Tyler Picard, but Coly quickly capitalized, knocking home the rebound for his first goal of the contest.

The Flyers attempted to mount a comeback, when early in the second half junior Jeff Popella scored on a penalty kick.

Noone put the game out of reach when he distributed to fellow Coly for his second goal. Coly  blew by Picard on a breakaway.  With that assist, Noone broke the Temple record for assists in a single season, held by Tony Donatelli (9, 2004), and now leads the conference with 10

The Cherry and White next take the pitch next when they host Xavier on Sunday, November 2, at 12:00 p.m.  The Temple women’s soccer team, which defeated Richmond in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, 1-0, will celebrate its Senior Day following the men’s game with a 3:00 p.m. match against George Washington.
