AMBLER, PA - The Men's Soccer team continued its powerful offensive weekend against Xavier on Sunday at Ambler Sports Complex. The Owls posted four goals in the first half en route to a 4-1 win over the Musketeers. The Cherry and White improve to 9-4-3, 5-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Xavier falls to 2-12-3, 1-5-2.
The Owls broke the scoreless tie less than a minute into the contest. Freshman forward Tyler Witmer set up junior Mike Puppolo for a blast from 25 yards out, beating keeper Ryan Engelmann top left.
Junior J.T. Noone added onto his school assist mark when he found Witmer on a one-timer. The goal marks Witmer's team leading seventh of the season.
Minutes later, sophomore Max Kinderwater headed a pass to junior Francois Sagna, who quickly knocked it home for the Owls third goal of the half.
Before the half was over, sophomore Kenechukwu Nwanah gave the Owls a lift off of the bench. J.T. Noone found the streaking Nwanah inside the box, beating the Xavier defense and tipping home an insurance goal for the Cherry and White. Noone continues to build on his school record, having now tallied 12 assists this season.
Sophomore keeper Bret Mollon made two saves on the day, only allowing one goal. Xavier midfielder Tommy Clines spoiled the shutout with a goal early in the second half, on an assist from Kennedy Nakwa.
The Cherry and White (9-4-3, 5-1-1) will wrap up their regular season when they host Fordham on Friday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m., and celebrate Senior Day on November 9 at 1:00 p.m, hosting LaSalle. Seniors
