KINGSTON, R.I. - The Temple men's tennis team made it back-to-back victories, as the Owls defeated Rhode Island in their first Atlantic 10 match of the season. "It was a strong team effort and good Atlantic 10 victory," said head coach Steve Mauro. Freshmen Lawrence Carpio picked up his first career singles victory, as he defeated URI's Jared Dorfman 6-3, 6-3 in #1 singles. Junior Eduardo Saavedra defeated Adam Gart 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 and senior Zach Tobias topped Andrew Costin 6-1, 6-4. The Cherry and White (2-4) swept all three doubles contests. Carpio and freshmen Andrew Choi defeated Dorfman and 9-8, Saavedra and junior Ricardo Velazquez topped Gart and McGuire 8-4 and sophomore Pavlos Stephanides and Tobias bested Almstrom and Simmons 9-8.
