Junior Andrew Fries won the javelin competition with a IC4A qualifying mark of 190-5 as the Temple men's track team opened its outdoor season at the Monmouth Season Opener on Saturday at Kessler Field. The distance was a career-best for fries, who bested the second-place finished by over four feet.
Freshman David Stonfer also had a strong showing. Stonfer, a transfer from Penn State, finished second in the 400m, and first among collegians, with a time of 49.55. He also helped the 4x400 relay to a second place finish (3:22.09).
Sophomore Joshua Louis won the high jump (6-6) and freshman Tim Boeni was fourth in the long jump (21-6 1/4) for the Owls. Junior Marcos Edghill finished second in the 110m hurdles (15.51), while another freshman, Brad McFadden, was sixth in the 400m hurdles (56.76).
Temple is back in action on Saturday at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational.
