Freshman Travis Gerhardt finished 23rd overall to lead the Temple men's cross country team to a fifth place showing at the Monmouth Invitational on Friday afternoon at Holmdel Park. Gerhardt traversed the five-mile course in a time of 29:50. Freshman Ayden Fiorelli was second for Temple and 30th overall (31:06).
Freshman Sean Martin (32nd, 31:20), sophomore Oluwaseun Ogunjemilusi (39th, 33:07) and sophomore Jason Sullivan (40th, 33:08) completed the top five for the Cherry and White.
Monmouth's Craig Segal won the event in a time of 27:44 to lead the host Hawks to the team title. MU (28 points) edged Rutgers (38) for the top spot and was followed by Seton Hall (73), Army (110), Felician (114), Temple (164) and Saint Peter's (191).
The Owls are back in action at the UMES Invitational on Saturday, September 23.
