WOMEN'S CREW PLACES 8TH AT A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS
 

 
 
 

 

 
 

PENNSAUKEN, NJ  -- The Temple Women's Crew team placed eighth at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Rowing Championship Saturday held Saturday afternoon, April 23 on the Cooper River.  The University of Massachusetts won its 10th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title. The 10-championship title streak is the longest in any sport in Atlantic 10 history.

 

Temple, under the direction of first-year head coach Tim Hagan, qualified for the final in four events -- The Quad; Novice 4, Lightweight 4 and Second Varsity 8 -- with the Lightweight 4, comprised of sophomore Christina Spino (cox); freshman Laura Austin, freshman Robin Hernandez, sophomore Jen Scattene and freshman Jackie Swan,  placing second.

 

The Owls Quad of senior Alexis Sakulich, sophomore Pia King, junior Emily Smith and sophomore Lauren Fattori finished fourth overall.  The Novice 4 consisting of freshman Brittany Walsh (cox), sophomore Kate Guth, sophomore April Gaskins, freshman Lauren Hard and sophomore Sara Nguyen placed fifth while the Second Varsity 8 featuring sophomore Robin Wang (cox), Fattori, Sakulich, Smith, King, sophomore Nicole Toner, senior Lauren Guttilla, freshman Amanda Barr and sophomore Dama Lewis, placed sixth.

 

The Minutewomen won three of nine races in posting 45 total points. Dayton placed second with 39 points - the highest finish ever for the Flyers at the Atlantic 10 Championship. George Washington was third with 36 points and Rhode Island finished fourth with 24 points. The Rams were followed by Fordham (23 points), Saint Joseph's (23 points), Duquesne (13 points), Temple (12 points), and La Salle (0 points).
