PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University women's fencing team had a strong showing at the 2003 NCAA Fencing Tournament held this past weekend, March 21-24 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Owls, who sent one of their youngest teams ever to the tournament, finished seventh among women's teams and had two fencers named All-American.

Senior Sakinah Shaahid and junior Aziza Hassan led the way for the Owls with seventh and eleventh place finishes respectively. Shaahid was named to the All-American second team while Hassan was named to the All-American third team.

In foil, sophomore Jeanne Browne finished 23rd while freshman Jenna Remmert placed 18th. Junior Sara Forsythe, the lone epee fencer representing the Owls, placed 16th overall.

"We are very pleased with our overall finish and how well the girls performed," said Head Coach Nikki Franke. "The competition was strong and the girls fought hard for every touch.
