Head coach Amanda Janney will begin her fourth season on North Broad Street in 2008. In three seasons in Owl Country, Janney has compiled a 39-23 overall mark while leading the Owls to three consecutive Atlantic 10 tournaments. Under her tutelage, members of the Cherry and White have celebrated 18 all-conference accolades, two Player of the Year awards and one All-American honor. In 2007, Janney guided the Owls to their first regular season Atlantic-10 championship in program history. Finishing the season at 15-6 and 6-1 in conference play, the Owls reached the Atlantic-10 conference semi-finals for the third consecutive season. Dominating from start to finish during the regular season, the 2007 campaign will be remembered as one of the most successful in school history, with victories over Lehigh, Lafayette, Richmond, UMass and nationally ranked Syracuse. Along with the team success, Alli Lokey and Ashley Bird were named the Atlantic 10's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year respectively. Lokey was also named second team All-American. In 2006, her second season on North Broad Street, the Owls finished 13-7 despite losing seven contributing seniors in 2005 to exhausted eligibilities. Featuring 11 freshmen and one senior, the team collected the most wins in program history since the 1991 season. The Cherry and White took flight in 2006 with a seven game winning streak, the longest since the same '91 campaign. Overtime wins over Lafayette and Massachusetts, as well as three shutouts from sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue against Fairfield, Drexel and Longwood kept the run in tact. Temple finished the Atlantic 10 slate with a 4-3 record and the conference's four-seed. In 2005, her first season on North Broad Street, the Owls posted their first winning season (11-10) since 1992 and their best Atlantic 10 Conference mark (6-1) since becoming an affiliate in 1988. Despite Temple's disappointing loss in the 2005 conference tournament's semifinal round, Janney was named Atlantic 10 Co-Coach of the Year in conjunction with Saint Louis head coach Maria Whitehead. With a veteran-laden squad in 2005, Janney coached the Owls to 10 victories in their final 13 games of the regular season. Despite dropping six of their first seven games, Janney's troops rebounded to finish as the second seed in the conference tournament. A credit to her support, motivation, and teaching, six Temple players received all-conference honors en route to the program's third consecutive appearance in the conference tournament. Prior to accepting the position at Temple, Janney, a '99 graduate of Wake Forest, spent two seasons as an assistant at Penn (2003, 2004) and one season at James Madison (2002). Under Janney's tutelage, Penn finished the 2003 season with a 10-8 record while capturing the Philadelphia City 6 title and garnering a #30 national ranking according to BRP's ratings.com. The 2004 season saw the Quakers win a share of the Ivy League title while boasting a #5 national ranking in scoring defense (.860). The 13-4 Penn squad ranked #20 nationally, according to womensfieldhockey.com. While at JMU, Janney assisted the Dukes to a 13-9 overall mark and their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1999. Following an illustrious playing career as a Demon Deacon, where Janney started 55 games and finished in the school's top 10 in goals (21) and assists (17), she assumed the position of head field hockey coach at Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth, Texas. The coaching stint at Trinity brought Janney back to her alma mater, where she is in the Trojan Hall of Fame for her athletic achievements in field hockey, soccer and softball. While at TVS for three seasons, she led the school to its first-ever undefeated season, posting an overall 53-3-1 record and was twice crowned Southwest Preparatory Champion. Remaining active on the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) circuit as a player, Janney participated in the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2008 National Indoor Tournament. In 2004, she was named a North American Premier League all-star as a member of Team Dita. Janney was also a member of the USFHA's Metro Rush from 2003 to 2005. While playing for Metro Rush in 2004, Janney was selected to play in the USFHA Summer League All-Star game against the US National Team. In 2007 and 2008, she helped lead Team Dita to the Big Apple Six-A-Side Championship. As a member of Mid-State, she and assistant coach Beth Riley captured the 2008 Keystone State Games Indoor Championship. Remaining active in the coaching circuit outside of her duties at Temple, Janney is currently the head coach and site director for one of the USFHA Futures Pennsylvania Level I sites. In 2008, she coached the Futures Championship Under-16 team to a gold medal, marking the third time that Janney has coached a USFHA Futures team to gold. Janney has also been instrumental in coaching and coordinating several national youth teams and camps throughout the year. At Temple University, she runs the Sweet D Field Hockey positional specialty clinics, Hat Tricks & Shutouts clinic, and the Randy Lokey Memorial Tournament for U14 teams. Janney has also coached a number of summer camps including the Head to Toe field hockey clinic, Champions Edge camps, the AAU Junior Olympics team and USA/Canada Field Hockey Challenge. She has received coaching certificates from the NCAA, USFHA Level One Coaching, the USFHA Futures Program, and the Greg Gephart Fund Coaching Clinic.
