TOWSON, MD-- The Temple women's gymnastics team finished fourth with a 182.200 score at the Shelli Calloway Memorial Invitational hosted by Towson University at the Towson Center. The host Tigers placed first with a 192.775 while Geroge Washington finished second, scoring a 192.125. Cornell came in third, with a score of 189.025 and Ursinus placed fifth, with a 181.075 effort. Junior Jillian Kornett provided the Owls' best event finish, posting a 9.625 on the vault to finish 12th. Sophomore Brittany Matthews also performed well, turning in a 9.525. On bars, Temple's top score went to freshman Natasha Crawford who finished with a 9.550, finishing 11th. Owl freshmen Nikki Berrian and senior co-captain Lindsey Stern placed in the top 20 scoring 9.450 and 9.075 respectively. In addition to her performance on the bars, Stern scored a 9.400 on the beam, turning in Temple's best performance on the apparatus. On the floor, Junior Sarah Liebowitz placed 14th with a score of 9.525. Berrian also made it to the top 20 in the event, tying for the 16th mark and giving a 9.500 effort. Liebowitz was the Cherry and White's only all-around competitior. She finished with a 36.375. Towson junior Christina Ghani swept all four events and finished first in the all around competition with a career high 39.200. The Owls (3-13) next travel to Ursinus to take on the Bears in a dual meet. This will be the teams third time competing against the Bears this season.
