TEMPLE FALLS TO XAVIER, 6-2, IN FIRST CONFERENCE MATCH OF SEASON
 

 
 
 

 

 
 

CINCINNATI, OH -- The Temple Owls fell to the Xavier Musketeers in their first Atlantic 10 conference game of the women's soccer season on Friday, September 30.  Xavier exhibited a strong offensive unit as five different players scored for the Musketeers.

 

Xavier freshman Sara Schmidt kicked off the first half scoring at 9:50. Temple came back just 20 minutes later with freshman Cori Gallagher netting the second goal of the game off of a pass from Katrina Lynch for the tie. Xavier responded with a goal scored by Amber Silvis off of a corner kick sent by Molly Finnerty at 42:53.

 

The Musketeers netted the first of four second half goals in the 50th minute of play. Freshman Melissa Zimmerman accepted a pass from Angie Scarlato to tally the team's third goal. Amber Silvis also dished an assist on Zimmerman's goal.  Freshman Sara Doutt scored off of a corner kick sent in by Amber Silvis at 61:23. Doutt came back with an unassisted goal six minutes later, floating the ball into the net from 35 yards out. Temple's Katrina Lynch netted the Owls' second goal of the game at 86:43. Stephanie Shafer assisted. Xavier's Molly Johnson capped off the scoring at 88:49, accepting a feed from Nalani Butler and slamming the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

 

Xavier outshot Temple 21-10 in the match. Temple keeper Tiffany Kasunich had five saves. Freshman Katrina Lynch tallied three points. Xavier dominated Temple (1-8-0) on corner kicks, 8-2.

 

Temple next faces off against Dayton in Ohio on Sunday, October 2 in their second Atlantic 10 match of the season.
