PHILADELPHIA (March 28) - Temple women's softball shut out Penn 3-0 and 5-0 to
sweep a doubleheader and extend their winning streak to four games. The win raises the Owls'
record to 13-17 overall. Temple took the early lead in both games and never looked back.
In the first game sophomore Ashley Caudill singled to left to score Katie Spencer from third base. Junior Martha Serrato RBI triple to centerfield scored Caudill and winning pitcher Bari Lynn Pflueger (6-6) to pace the Owls to a 3-0 victory. Pflueger allowed 3 hits and had five strikeouts in seven innings of shutout ball
In the second game sophomore pitcher Liz Naughton (7-3) led the Owls. Naughton held the Quakers hitless until the 5th inning. She allowed 2 hits, one strikeout and 2 walks in a commanding performance. The game winning runs were scored on a single to left by Alexis Pena scoring Erin Mahoney (reached base on an error) and Martha Serratto (reached base on a fielder's choice) both runs were unearned. Temple added two more unearned runs in the sixth one run by Alexis Pena (reached base on a walk) advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball. Katie Spencer scored the second run (reached base on a single to right) on a RBI single from Katie Weigle.
The (13-17,2-1) Owls will next visit LaSalle (3-16,0-3) on Saturday March 31 in a doubleheader at 12 noon.
