PHILADELPHIA -- After winning five out of their six singles matches and two of their three doubles matches, the Temple University women's tennis team defeated Dartmouth 6-1 on Sunday, February 16, 2003.
Junior's Danira Penic and Lara Ercegovic defeated their opponents 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots. Freshman Mia Marovic defeated Sarah McNally 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles spot while fellow freshman Ana Maslesa beat Arden Fredeking 6-2, 6-3. Lauren Verrall defeated Katie Jaxheimer 6-2, 6-3 while Laura Seiverling lost a close one to Ann Scott 5-7, 3-6 in the No. 6 singles position.
In doubles action, the duo of Penic and Maslesa defeated Jayme Ahmed and Fredeking 8-3 while the team of Ercegovic and Marovic defeated Catherine Crandall and Jaxheimer 8-3 in the NO. 2 doubles spot. In a fight to the finish match, the team of Rene Deyzel and Verrall lost to Dartmouth's Lisa Francazio and Ann Scott 6-8.
Next up for the Owls is a home match against Duquesne on February 21, 2003 at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center in Manayunk, Pennsylvania.
