The Temple men's and women's tennis teams finished the 1999-2000 season with second place finishes in the Atlantic Ten Championships.
Head Coach Bill Hoehne led the men's squad to an overall record of 7-6 with the team winning four of their last six matches including two wins during the A-10 Tournament. They were led by senior Pero Pivcevic who played in the No. 1 singles spot and had a team best15-13 record. Pivcevic, a native of Croatia was named to the A-10 All Conference team for the fourth straight year. Krishane Pillay was also named to the A-10 All-Conference team after running up an outstanding 14-8 singles record at the No. 3 spot on the team. In doubles action, freshman Marty Underwood and junior Jordan Huffer combined late in the season to become an unstoppable duo. The doubles team posted an impressive 8-2 record winning six of their last seven doubles matches of the season. After placing third last year and second this year, the Owls have now placed in the top five in the Atlantic 10 standings for sixteen consecutive years. The women, guided by head coach Tracy Tooke, finished with a 10-9 record and a second place standing in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Owls finished strong winning seven of their last nine matches. Junior Tamara Truta, team MVP for the last two years, had another outstanding season with a 20-9 record in the No. 1 singles spot. Truta won 14 of her last 17 matches including two wins in Atlantic 10 Championship play and was later named to the A-10 All Conference team. In November, the Croatia native advanced to the second round of the ITA Eastern Regional Championships. Seniors Kathleen Pete and Nadia Ramdass also had solid seasons for the Owls. A New Jersey native, Pete finished the season with an impressive 14-11 singles record playing in both the No. 3 and No 4 spots on the team. She was also named to the A-10 All Conference team for the
second year in a row. Ramdass finished the season with a 14-11 singles record winning five of her last seven matches. The Owls lost to Virginia Tech in the finals of the A-10 Tournament for the second year in a row. As the 2001 season approaches, the Owls hope to break this streak and win the elusive A-10 title.
