Blacksburg, Va. (April 22, 2000)- Afia Brown qualified for the ECAC/IC4A's in

the 200 Meter Dash this past weekend at Virginia Tech's 2000 Spring Gobbler

Invitational. Brown finished fifth with a time of 24.57, beating the

qualifying requirement of 24.84.

In the women's 100 meter dash, Naomi Beverly finished in 10th place with a

time of 12.46. Dionna Miller placed 16th with a time of 12.84. Beverly also

finished 17th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.69 and 10th in the

triple jump with a mark of 10.64m 34'11.

Chanel Dale finished ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.39. Kasha

Craig placed 12th with a finish time of 60.04. Patricia Swiggett finished 13th

with a time of 60.08.

In the 800 meter run, Kimberly LeBlanc finished in 20th place with a time of

2:34.74. Christine Leahy ran to a 22nd place finish in the 1,500 meter run

with a time of 5:50.74. Leahy also finished 11th in the 3,000 meter run with a

time of 13:02.42.

Dale placed sixth in the 400 meter int. hurdles with a time of 70.77.

Catherine Gormley also brought in a sixth place finish in the pole vault with

a mark of 2.74m 8'11.75.

In relay events, the 4*100 team finished in fifth place with a time of 48.47.

The 4*400 team placed fifth with a time of 4:07.08.

Two Owls posted finishes in the long jump. Miller finished ninth with a mark

of 5.21m 17'01 and Edith Lewis placed 18th with a mark of 4.80m 15'09. In the

women's shot put, Ursula Moorer finished 10th with a mark of 8.29m 27'02.50.

Melanie Crumbia and Danelle Medina had impressive throws in the discus throw.

Crumbia finished 13th with a mark of 31.61m 103'08.00 and Medina 12th with a

mark of 31.17m 102'03.00. In the women's hammer throw, Joi Brown threw to a

fifth place finish with a mark of 39.71m 130'03.00. Crumbia posted a sixth

place finish with a mark of 38.96m 127'10.00. Medina rounded out the hammer

throw finishes with a 14th place finish and a mark of 26.76m 87'09.00.

Marirose Roach recorded a 10th place finish in the javelin throw with a mark

of 31.95m and 104'10.00.
